The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) as the central federal institution in the field of public health and as a national public health institute publishes the CovPass app for the German federal government. Corona vaccinations can be saved directly on the smartphone with the app. Those who use them can prove their vaccination protection quickly, securely and digitally. The app can also be used to verify the vaccination protection of other people (e.g. family members) on the smartphone. The users of the app decide when and to whom to show their information and data.

HOW THE APP WORKS

Proof of corona vaccinations is the central function of the CovPass app. Whenever users prove their vaccination protection, only the most necessary information and data are displayed via QR code.

The QR code provides information about a person's vaccination status. The name and date of birth are also displayed during a check for clear identification. The app never transmits personal information and data.

The vaccination protection can also be stored on the smartphone for other people (e.g. family members). So that the CovPass app can display the QR code, all corona vaccinations necessary for complete vaccination protection must be saved in the app in advance. The app then displays the QR code on the start screen. This can be shown if necessary.

Corona vaccinations can be certified with a vaccination certificate on request. The vaccination certificate is issued by the medical staff after vaccination. It contains a QR code that can be scanned with the app. To do this, hold the smartphone's camera over the QR code. The vaccination is downloaded directly to the smartphone.

You can recognize the correct certificate in Germany by the fact that the issuer is the Robert Koch Institute. QR codes from, for example, vaccination certificates or QR codes on some batch stickers from the yellow vaccination book cannot be added.

The data of the vaccinated person is stored locally on the smartphone , Only the users decide when and to whom to show the information and data.

HOW THE DATA STAY SECURE

Data protection is maintained over the entire period of use.

- No registration: No registration with an email address is necessary.

- Local data storage: Your complete vaccination data are only saved on your smartphone.

- Data economy: The QR code as proof of complete vaccination protection is displayed with the minimum amount of data agreed in the EU. After checking the QR code, only the vaccination status, name and date of birth are displayed.

- Cryptographic security: The QR code is protected with a strong signature and cannot be forged.
