It is a general history in 12 volumes, from creation and the beginning of time until its era, as it ended at the end of the year 628 AH. Recording of events, as he records the events of each year separately, and established a balance between the news of the East and the Maghreb and what is between them over seven centuries and a quarter of a century. And the news of atmospheric and terrestrial phenomena such as high prices, cheapness, drought, epidemics and earthquakes.

In his book, Ibn al-Atheer was not only a reporter of news or a recorder of events, but he was an excellent analyzer and insightful critic; Where he was keen on explaining some historical phenomena and criticizing the owners of his sources, and he discussed many of their news, and you find in him political, military, moral and practical criticism that comes pardoned between the folds of the book, which is what made his historical personality completely clear in writing always.

The importance of returning The book indicated that he completed what the history of al-Tabari had stopped in in the year 302 AH, which is the year in which his book ended. The year 628 AH, and also included the news of the Tatar encroachment on the Islamic East since its inception in the year 616 AH. Ibn al-Atheer wrote his history in an unobtrusive prose style, moving away from verbal embellishments and strange words, taking care to include the news material in clear and concise terms. It is a book in which al-Dhahabi collected all the incidents that occurred during that period

Author: Izz al-Din Abu al-Hasan al-Jazari al-Mawsili (555-630 AH), known as Ibn al-Athir al-Jazari, a great Islamic historian, contemporary of the state of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, and he monitored Its events and his complete book on history is a reference to that period of Islamic history.
