History of al-Tabari

The History of Nations and Kings, or the History of the Messengers and Kings known as Tarikh al-Tabari, is a book on history written by Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari, who died in 310 AH, and the book dates from the beginning of creation to the end of the year 302 AH, and it was said in the year 309 AH.

Al-Tabari started with the news of Adam until it ended with the news of his time. And the book is on the path of news and in sequence, and most of it is with chains of transmission, and al-Tabari did not stipulate that everything in it be proven, but rather took the principle “whoever is attributed has transmitted.” Where al-Tabari says in the introduction to the book:

“Whatever in this book of news we mentioned about some of the past, which the reader would denounce, or the listener would despise, because he did not know its authenticity or meaning in reality, let him know. It was not brought about that by us, rather it was brought by some of its transmitters to us, and I only did that in the manner that it led to us.”
